Willetton's name derives from Henry Willett of Willett & Co, with various land offerings and development from the 1830s.  In 1970 Burrendah Heights and the name is survived by the Burrendah Boulevard and Primary School and the development of Rostrata in the 1980s north of Collins Rd and east of Vahland Ave.  In 1965 the current boundaries of Willetton was gazetted and is one of Perth’s larger suburbs with over 6,000 homes, which is steadily increasing with the high density infill creating sub-divisions within the suburb.

The suburb is serviced by 3 public primary schools, Burrendah, Willetton and Rostrata and the private facility Orana Catholic Primary School.  Secondary education offered at Willetton High School is in high demand and a small section of Willetton in the North/West is assigned to the Rossmoyne High School.  In addition, the Woodthorpe School is within Willetton.
